Temperate House – Contractors Party

Venue: Temperate House, Kew Gardens
Client: Kew Gardens

Oxygen were approached by the events team at Kew Gardens to provide them with production for an internal event celebrating the reopening of the newly refurbished Temperate House.
As we have an established relationship with Kew Gardens, we were able to discuss many different ideas for how to light the large and impressive space, while not taking away from the natural beauty, however ultimately we were given a lot of the creative control.

Being a huge glasshouse makes it quite challenging to light this venue, and so we needed to design our lighting to showcase the venue in all its glory. The venue is designed around a cross, we projected a gobo pattern wash over the floor, whilst a moving gobo patterned wash was projected across the ceiling and gently moved throughout the evening. Each section of the room was highlighted with a powerful moving head lighting wash. The trees were highlighted with LED battery uplighters which were fully controlled and allowed for colour change throughout the evening. The exterior of the venue was lit, and each step into the venue was lit.

The audio instatllation was also very tricky because we needed to get an even coverage but we could not cover the whole venue due its vast size and the venue being made of glass making audio coverage difficult. We needed to pin point the position of the speakers, whilst taking into account the width of the paths to allow for an even coverage for the speeches.

Our beautiful circular mirror bar was split into 2 half bar sections and set opposite to each other in the centre of the cross to create a hub for the event.

The venue is open to the general public during the day and so required careful planning to include an early morning pre-rig and finish the installation within 1.5 hours after the venue had been shut to the public.

It was a joy to be back in this very special venue and to experience "The Greatest Glasshoue in the World" and we thoroughly enjoyed designing our lighting to showcase the refurbished space.
